Series of Completed Actions

We use the Simple Past to list a series of completed actions in the past.

Examples:

- I went to Canada, finished my studies, and found a great job. 

- He arrived from the airport at 8:00, checked into the hotel at 9:00, and met the others at 10:00.

- did you buy the launched smart phone , and used it?

 Duration in Past

The Simple Past can be used with a duration which starts and stops in the past. A duration is a longer action often indicated by expressions such as: for ten years, for two weeks, all day, all year, etc.

Examples:

- I worked in Canada for five years.

- Ashley studied English for three years.

- they sat at the school all day.

- they did not stay at here the entire time.

- how long did he spend in Paris?

- we waited for tow months.
